Lego Super Mario 3! Wah-hoo!

This AMAZING airship, dubbed "The Fireflower" was built by Baron von Brunk. I don't think it's a replica of any one of the airship levels from Super Mario Bros 3, but rather an amalgamation of all of them, as there is on airship level in every world. He doesn't say anything about whether or not it is a specific level in the article on his Tumblr page.
Check out the original article, it has tons of pictures from every conceivable angle. There are some striking details that I want to point out now, though. The first that struck me, other than the size, was the mid-fire Bullet Bills. Now, obviously, LEGO doesn't have any Mario sets, so these Bullet Bills had to be built by hand. And they are quite incredible. Another detail is Mario and Luigi posed on the stern...port...bow. Whatever.
And finally, one of the absolute best parts of this set, light-up Fire Flower art down on the stern, serving as the front of the cabin, which actually houses an entire, I'll call it a mini-gallery, of pixel art.
All-in-all, this is one amazing piece of art, and should be celebrated with tambourines, lutes, and those horns the Gungans from the celebration scene at the end of Phantom Menace.

Steampunk Sunday

Matt Armstrong (monsterbrick) built this steampunk hand pistol. Like last week's Clockwork Wyrm, this gun is built mostly from Bionicle and Technic pieces. And it really does look like a gun a lady of high society might carry in her handbag in some alternate steampunk universe.

Lego Optical Illusion

This cool optical illusion was built by Brixe63, who actually has a whole Flickr stream of Lego optical illusions.

Best Games of 2011

This Lego montage of the best 2011 video games was aired at the beginning of the 15th Interactive Achievement Awards, held during the 2012 DICE Conference. It was put together by Alex Kobbs, with the music by Glen Ballard, in a total of 3 months.
The list of games features is listed at the end of the video. And if you'll notice, Arkham City is spelled wrong.

"He say you Brade Runner!"

Another one from Legohaulic. These Blade Runner figures are really quite accurate, but Pris scares the hell out of me.
I think Deckard and Rachael are the best ones, most accurate. But the best part of all of these is the plastic cloak on the bikini one, I don't remember her name. As I've said before, details like that are just the best thing for me.

Steampunk Sunday

V&A Steamworks built this Clockwork Wyrm of Arcane Magicks mostly out of Bionicle and Technic pieces. Actually, mostly Bionicle pieces. You can see several swords, chest plates, and Visorak head/bodies. And it's gold and shiny!

"LEGO Minecraft Micro World" Part 2

The new LEGO Minecraft set, Minecraft Micro World, is now available for pre-order for $34.99. This video from Mojang describes the very technical way the blocks were created.
Despite my previous raving about the LEGO Minecraft project, I'm not too excited now that I see the actual set. I just find it disappointing. I was hoping it would look way cooler, kind of like this.

Portal Wedding Toppers

Tyler (Legohaulic) was contacted by a couple and was asked to create these replicas of ATLAS and P-Body to compliment their Companion Cube wedding cake. And what a job he did. These are really neat recreations of the two androids from Portal 2.

Lego Robotic Arm.

This arm, from Youtube user sumthinelse5790, is really cool, but really slow. It's also surprisingly dexterous. Almost as dexterous as an actual arm. Even somewhat more so than mine since I broke it.

Avengers Assemble!

These are the new Marvel minifigures, as revealed at Toy Fair NY 2012. These figures will be included in the new Marvel sets, to be released in May, probably so as to coincide with the release of the Avengers movie. The picture above showcases, from left to right, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow. And Iron Man looks stupid.

New Feature: Steampunk Sundays

Everybody loves steampunk. So I decided to introduce a new weekly feature, showcasing original steampunk creations. This week I'm showcasing Beau Donnan's (Ɍaillery) "Destroyer-Class" Light Steam Railship Mk. XXXIII.
This is a neat armored train, featuring 2 turrets. They look like they turn, but I'm not sure. I like that he added smoke coming out of the top.
This railship is actually part of a much larger set Ɍaillery built, Steam War Machines. It's a large set, and he even wrote a little backstory for it. It's really neat. Check it out.

"Wuh-oh! Big gooberfish! Huge-o teeth!"

Matt De Lanoy (Pepa Quin) built this recreation of the Opee Sea Killer attacking the bongo from Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, but he just recently posted these edited photos of his creation on his Flickr stream. The Opee is very impressive. The bongo is cool too, but as much as the opee, with it's hinged mouth and glow-in-the-dark teeth and eyes. Hee, I love glow-in-the-dark.

"LEGO Minecraft Micro World"

LEGO will be unveiling a new set from the LEGO Minecraft concept, as first introduced on LEGO Cuusoo, at LEGO World Copenhagen on Feb. 16. The model name of said set is 21102 LEGO Minecraft Micro World.

Captain America is a Star-Spangled, Cold-Blooded Killer

While most of you have probably already seen this, I just had to post it. Made by ForestFire Films, this is Captain America at his most violent.

Britains... In... Space!

Sylvain Amacher’s (captainsmog) built this neat British steampunk Mars base thing. This is a pretty detailed creation, with the support struts and the decorative things on the front that don't appear to serve a practical purpose. I love steampunk, and this is a steampunk set if I've ever seen one. And a cool one at that.

Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye

This Tide box is actually kinda neat. It's 20" x 10" x 15", larger than your average box, but with LEGO, to scale creations can sometimes be difficult. The coolest part about this box, originally from The World in Bricks, is that it isn't just a solid block. The inside is partially filled with one-stud bricks to simulated detergent and there's even a little LEGO scoop.
This box was actually posted early 2010, but I just saw it on Rebrick today as one of the recommended bookmarks. I thought it was just kinda neat, so here it is.

Hill Valley, 2015

Alex Jones (Orion Pax) built this replica of Hill Valley in 2015 from Back to the Future Part II. It's actually part of a whole BTTF set that Alex has made.
If you look, you can see Marty McFly out in the middle of the pond being chased by Griff and his gang. It's details like this that make sets.
